The party the freight is delivered to; the one who signs the bill of lading.
Also called: Receiver.
Does it pay the driver? Not a pay item.
A party on the load, not a pay item.
The consignee is the receiver at the destination. Their signature on the bill of lading is what turns it into proof of delivery, and any shortage or damage gets noted there, so the driver should watch it get signed.
The other end of the load is the shipper, where the freight is picked up.
