SD (Split delivery)

One owner-operator hauls the first leg of a trip and a different one finishes it, each settled for their own leg.

Also called: Relay, Hand-off.

Does it pay the driver? Miles only for the leg driven.

The leg’s miles are the pay; the hand-off adds nothing flat.

On a split delivery the load changes hands partway, at a split point. The carrier settles each owner-operator for the leg they ran, with the miles for that leg.

The driver is paid the miles they drove and nothing flat for the hand-off itself. If the leg included a live load or a stop-off, those still pay as usual.

On a trip envelope the hand-off is often marked with an S, for split point.
